I first arrived in Italy in 1991, when I came to be an aupair girl in Bassano del Grappa near Venice. I was so enthralled by the experience that I changed my mind about my degree subject! Instead of studying History as originally planned, I decided to pursue an joint-honours degree in Italian and History.
During my Erasmus year I studied Art History and Italian Literature at the ancient University of Pavia, near Milan. Whilst studying, I took every opportunity to explore the length and breadth of the country. Since then, I have worked as a tour guide, an English language teacher and flown around the world for British Airways as cabin crew!
In 2009, I moved to Venice in Italy and lived there for three years, teaching English as a foreign language. Here, I built up an extensive knowledge of Venetian history and art, as well as some of its many secrets. Did you know about the secret gardens of Venice? I visited most of them, apart from the mysterious Garden of Eden which is closed to the public.
I later met and married my Italian husband, Gaetano. We divide our time between Italy and the UK, which ensures that my knowledge of both languages and cultures is kept up to date.
The next natural progression for me was to pursue an MA in Translation. I have a passion for tourism, art, and history and a love of writing, with experience writing for a food magazine and interning at the Sunday Times Travel Magazine.
My goal is to bring people and cultures closer together through effective communication. I'm passionate about customer service and delivering accurate, high-quality, on-time translations.
